Vincent Barras plays the four saxophones (soprano, alto, tenor and baritone) in a wide range of styles, from classical to modern and jazz. He is also teacher of saxophone in the Cadet de Genève and the music school of Morges (La Syncope) which he directed from 2006 to 2013. In addition, Vincent Barras conducted different wind band from Geneva from 2007 to 2019 including the Petit-Saconnex and the Cadets de Genève wind orchestra. He has been substituted teacher of saxophone in Conservatoire Populaire de Musique de Genève (CPMDT) from 2015 to 2017. Vincent is also president of the musical commission of the Association cantonale des musiques genevoises (ACMG) and is frequently called on by various music schools and music competition in Suisse Romande. His concerts have taken him to many countries in Europe as well as to Canada, Colombia and China.
For the past years he’s been working with professional ensembles and orchestras such as the “Suisse Romande” Orchestra (2001-2010) and regularly with the Geneva Chamber Orchestra and has appeared with conductors including Fabio Luisi, Pinchas Steinberg, Dirk Brossé, Bruno Fontaine, Douglas Bostock, Jan Cober, Yutaka Sado… In 2005 he formed Duo W with Vincent Thévenaz and they produced three albums with a varied programme running from Bach to Piazzolla. His performances in Switzerland and abroad include recitals with pianist Saya Hashino in various festivals and concert series in Suisse Romande (the Schubertiades of the Swiss Radio, the Sommets du Classique). Vincent Barras is also a founding member of the Big Up ‘Band, a highly successful jazz orchestra, which regularly performs around Lake Geneva on prestigious stages, such as Alhambra Geneva, Auvernier Jazz Festival, Chorus Lausanne, Vernier Jazz and Victoria Hall.
