Sinfonia Valais-Wallis is a Valais orchestra that brings together between fifteen and sixty musicians, depending on the project. The orchestra has been part of the Valais cultural landscape since 2021, with concert seasons that have seen it perform throughout the canton, from Grengiols to Vouvry.
Sinfonia Valais-Wallis is destined to grow over the years, and has established itself as a versatile organisation, capable of meeting the needs of the region’s various cultural players, both as a full symphony orchestra and as a chamber orchestra.
Strongly committed to the development of orchestral culture in Valais, the Orchestra works with a number of cultural institutions and players in the canton, such as Ouverture-Opéra, the Novantiqua, Oracantat and Cantamabile choirs and the Schola de Sion, as well as various festivals such as ‘Les Ondes’ in Monthey, the Grängjer Kulturtäg and the Biennale Son.
The musicians of Sinfonia Valais-Wallis mainly come from the local area: professional musicians established in the canton, orchestral musicians who have worked in other towns, alumni or students of the HEMU, teachers at the Conservatoire or the Allgemeine Musikschule Oberwallis (AMO)… The Valais has a sufficient number of quality musicians to guarantee the continuity of this project and to offer professional opportunities to the artists in their own region.
The current dynamism, reinforced by the canton’s new Cultural Policy and the investments made by a number of communes to equip themselves with centres of expertise or concert halls, confirm the idea behind this initiative: the Valais deserves a professional classical music structure, fully integrated into its cultural landscape and at the service of its population.
