The Coboli Cantores were created in December 2018 under the impetus of Alain Carron. As part of his Bachelor’s project at the Hochschule Musik in Luzern, he decides to stage a concert with a male choir made up of chorister friends, former singers of the “Schola de Sion”. Thanks to the enthusiasm of the participants, and at the suggestion of some of them, the Coboli Cantores association was founded.
The aim of this association is to enable male and female singers who have met at the Schola de Sion to perform quality vocal music together from time to time. To this end, it is committed to creating the conditions necessary for this kind of project, whether by making contacts with choral professionals, hiring a director, organizing logistics or raising the necessary funds.
2020 and Covid led to the cancellation of these projects, but this did not stop the Coboli Cantores and the Chœur de Jade de Fribourg, who joined forces to offer two concerts in February 2022 in St-Séverin (VS) and Riaz (FR). Building on these successes, the association now intends to organize or take part in one major choral project per year. In addition to the annual “major project” – in March 2023, Pascal Crittin will conduct the Coboli Cantores in a male-voice formation, focusing on Nordic and Baltic music – a number of smaller-scale projects are planned. In May and October 2023, six singers perform Cristobal de Morales’ Missa Mille Regretz. Following concerts in April 2024 focusing on Rachmaninov’s Vespers and works by Zelenka, the Coboli Cantores will perform a new program of Christmas carols in December with a storyteller.
