Yiheng Wang was born in Shenyang, China, in 1996 and began playing the piano at the age of 4. When he was 11, he moved with his family to Tokyo, where he continued his piano studies with Yukio Yokoyama at the Ueno Gakuen Junior High School.
In 2014 he went to Paris to continue his musical studies. He was taught by Pierre Reach, Judy Chin-Cottet and Romain Descharmes at the CRR of Paris. After finishing his studies at the Conservatoire de Paris, in Emmanuel Strosser’s class.
His repertoire ranges from the baroque to contemporary music. He also plays the harpsichord and transcribes harpsichord pieces for the piano: for example, works by François Couperin, Jean-Philippe Rameau, William Byrd and Domenico Scarlatti. This has allowed him to develop a very subtle sensitivity and a special musical taste in his interpretation.
Yiheng has shared the stage with such eminent artists as Nicholas Angelich, Jean-Efflam Bavouzet, François-Frédéric Guy, Emmanuel Strosser, Vanessa Wagner and Marie-Josèphe Jude. He is also fortunate to receive invaluable advice from Till Fellner and Aleksandar Madzar.
Yiheng participates in many national and international competitions. He won the Young Critics’ Prize at the Clara Haskil Competition in 2021 and was a semi-finalist at the prestigious Long Thibaud Crespin International Competition in 2019. In 2022, he won First Prize and the Public’s Prize at the 10th Concours National de Piano “Les Virtuoses du Coeur”.
He has been invited to renowned festivals, including: Festival Piano en Saintonge, Festival Européen Jeunes Talents, Saoû Chante Mozart, La Folle Journée de Nantes and Festival International de Piano La Roque d’Anthéron, where he took part in the “Complete 32 Piano Sonatas by Beethoven” project.
He is supported by the Fonds de Tarrazi, Fondation ONYX and the Meyer Foundation.
Apart from music, Yiheng is interested in cooking. He loves to invent new recipes that mix oriental and exotic flavors. For him, there is a common link between making music and cooking, and that is the ability to travel.
Since September 2023, Yiheng is Artist in residence at the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel, in the class of Frank Braley and Avedis Kouyoumdjian.
