Following directly from the previous concert, the genius of the great violinist and composer Eugène Ysaÿe, whose name was prophetic for an artist who was nothing less, will be honoured. His musical language, rooted in the 19th century, was already a harbinger of the 20th, and his six sonatas for solo violin are worthy descendants of those by J.S. Bach. Marc Bouchkov, the Belgian-Russian violinist, a veritable D’Artagnan of his instrument and a prize-winner in numerous international competitions, will be joined by the great cellist Jing Zhao in a duet by the composer Erwin Schulhoff, who died too soon in a concentration camp in 1942. He will also be accompanied by the talented violinist Lir Vaginsky in Ysaÿe’s sonata for 2 violins, a masterpiece waiting to be discovered!
